Delete your Wamemba me account
Wamemba me is made by The Doxa Way Ltd. You can delete your account and your family’s sayings at any time.
Ask us by email
Email hello@wamemba.me with the subject “Delete my account”. This works whether or not you still have the app.
Anyone can send an email, so we check the account is yours before we delete anything:
- If you backed up with Apple or Google, write from that email address, or tell us which one it is and we’ll write to it to confirm.
- If you never backed up, send us both the account number from the app (tap the cog; it is at the end of Your account: “Account” and 8 letters and numbers) and something only your phone knows: your child’s first name and the date of your latest saying. We need both.
- If you had a membership but no longer have the phone, send us, from the email address the receipt went to, the order number from your Apple or Google receipt email (a Google Play order number starts with GPA.). We use it to find your account. You don’t need to install the app again.
We reply within one month, and usually much sooner. If we can’t find your account, or can’t be sure it’s yours, we’ll tell you, and we won’t delete anything on a guess.
In the app
Tap the cog for Settings, then Your data, then Delete your account and sayings. It happens straight away, and you can download your sayings first. If the app loses touch with us partway, it finishes the next time it can.
Cancel your membership first
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a membership: only Apple or Google can. Cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings (your name, then Subscriptions) or in Google Play (your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions), or you may be charged again. Help has the steps.
What is deleted
- Your account, and the Apple or Google sign-in linked to it.
- Your children’s first names and birthdays.
- Every saying and conversation, what was happening, who said it, and what made-up words mean.
- Your membership record in our database.
- The analytics events sent under your account’s random number. Our analytics provider removes them within a few days.
If another parent shares your family in Wamemba me, or another phone still uses it, the family and its sayings stay with them. Only you are removed, and the app tells you so.
What we keep, and for how long
- Our database backups: up to 7 days, then your data is gone from them too.
- Crash reports: up to 90 days. They never contain sayings, names or birthdays.
- Records of your purchases: RevenueCat, which checks purchases for us, keeps a record under your account’s random number, and Apple and Google keep their own under their own terms. They never contain sayings, names or birthdays. The privacy policy, section 7, says for how long.
- Server logs, which include the IP address your phone used: up to 30 days.
- A record that you deleted your account in the app (its random number and dates, nothing of your family): 13 months.
- A record of a request you made by email: 6 years, without any sayings.
- Emails between us: only as long as we need them to help you. We review old emails and delete them at least every 2 years. This is done by hand for now.
Cards you saved or sent are pictures. They stay wherever you put them. On iPhone, your own iCloud backup may hold a copy of the app’s data until it is replaced.
The privacy policy has the details, in sections 7 and 9.
